Water baptism is for those who have received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. When you are born again you are baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. When you have received Christ, you need to be baptized into water. Water baptism is a public demonstration wherein we are following the example that Jesus set for us. We identify with the Lord’s death, burial, and resurrection: death to our selfish motives, the burial of our sinful, destructive self-life, and rising up in His resurrection power. We are declaring to the world that salvation is working in us. With obedience to following Christ into these waters of baptism there is a work that takes place in the heart. We step into the reality of John 3:30,“He must increase and I must decrease,” in the waters of baptism.
